As a wholesaler, we supply a very large range of chessboards, in various sizes, to retailers throughout Europe.
The different dimensions are important to keep an overview on the chessboard. Chess pieces that are too small on a chessboard that are too large are not good chess.
Conversely, chess figures that are too large on a chess board that are too small also do not provide a good overview.
In the different groups below, the chessboards are divided into the different sizes, matching the different Staunton size chess figures.
Staunton size 2 - 68-70mm = 40mm field size chessboard
Staunton size 3 -76-78 mm = 45 mm field size chessboard
Staunton size 4 / 5 - 87-89 mm = 50 mm field size chess board
Staunton size 6 - 93-97mm field size 55mm chessboard - this size is the match size chessboard
Our shopkeepers have received an explanation of how to put together a beautiful chess set from a separate chessboard and separate chess pieces.
A cheap chess board is often printed, while the more luxurious boards are inlaid. An inlaid chessboard is made by placing all pieces of wood next to each other and then glueing them on a board.
